Ganga Saptami is being celebrated today i.e. on 14th May. The day of Ganga Saptami has great importance in Sanatan Dharma. According to the scriptures, there is a tradition of worshiping Goddess Ganga on this day. According to the Hindu calendar, this festival is celebrated on the Saptami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month. Saptami Tithi will start at 5:20 pm on May 13, which will end today i.e. May 14, at 6:49 pm. Today Ganga Saptami will be celebrated in Pushya Yoga. Also, this year, on the day of Ganga Saptami, many auspicious yogas like Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga, Ravi Yoga are also being formed. Pushya Nakshatra is also going to be present on this day, due to which the importance of this day has increased even more.

Who is Mother Ganga?

According to Padmapuran, in ancient times Brahmaji said to the ‘original nature’ of the universe – “O Goddess! You become the original cause of all the worlds, I will start the creation of the world from you only. At the behest of Lord Brahma, the original nature appeared in these seven forms – Gayatri, Saraswati, Lakshmi, Umadevi, Shakti Bija, Tapaswini and Dharmadrava. Of these, the seventh ‘Paraprakriti Dharmadrava’ i.e. Goddess Ganga, was adopted by Brahmaji, who was well-versed in all religions, in his Kamandal. According to another story, Ganga is the daughter of Himavan, the king of the mountains, and Maina, thus Ganga Maiya is the sister of Goddess Parvati

On this day, Ganga reached Shiva’s matted hair

It is said that during Satyayug King Bali’s Yagya, when Lord Vishnu took on the form of Vaman, one of his steps entered the cosmos and the sky and landed in front of Brahma Ji. Brahma Ji then gave Lord Vishnu a bath with the water from his kamandal. revered their feet. Lord Vishnu’s feet fell onto Hemkoot mountain as he was cleaning them. From there, the water made its way to Lord Shiva, where it was absorbed into his hair and became Ganga. Ganga lingered for a long while roaming in Shiva’s hair.

On this day, remembering, worshiping and bathing Mother Ganga brings wealth, happiness, fame and respect and all sins are destroyed. According to astrological belief, worshiping Ganga on this day reduces the inauspicious effects of planets. Worshiping the Ganga is considered to be a provider of salvation and infallibly fruitful and the donation made on this day is given to the living being as a virtue for many births.

Worship Mother Ganga like this

On this day, one should worship one’s favorite deities in Brahma Muhurta. One should take a resolution for Ganga Saptami fast by taking water, flowers, fruits, fragrance and Kush in the right hand. Mother Ganga should be worshiped by offering incense sticks, lamps, flowers etc. as naivedya. Shri Ganga Stuti and Shri Ganga Stotra should be recited. Especially doing charity on this day is considered very fruitful. Along with this, chant the Vedic mantras of Gangaji.

Ganga Puja Shubh Muhurat

On the day of Ganga Saptami, there is also going to be a combination of Pushya Nakshatra, Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga and Ravi Yoga. On this day, the conjunction of Pushya Nakshatra will start on May 13 at 11:23 am and will end on May 14 at 1:05 pm. At the same time, Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga will start on this day at 1:05 pm and will end on May 15 at 5:30 am. Apart from this, Ravi Yoga will start at 5.31 am and will end at 1.05 pm.
